On Wednesday, a man being arrested by Homeland Security stole a law enforcement vehicle and fled, leading to a car chase and his arrest near Castle Rock, WA., according to the Cowlitz County Sheriff’s Office.
At about 9 a.m. Wednesday morning, deputies received information about a stolen law enforcement vehicle headed northbound on I-5, approaching Cowlitz County. The vehicle was reported to have a firearm secured inside.
Cowlitz County Sheriff’s Deputies found the vehicle and attempted to stop it while the suspect attempted to elude law enforcement while driving at over 100 MPH and making erratic lane changes.
Officers used spike strips and were able to deflate one of the vehicle’s tires.
The suspect continued to drive northbound after losing a tire and took exit 48 near Castle Rock, deputies used a pursuit intervention technique to disable the vehicle. The suspect then rolled the vehicle on its top and was taken into custody without further incident.
The suspect is identified as Travis J. Grygla, 43, of Portland.
Grylga had reportedly been placed under arrest by agents as they executed a search warrant at his home Wednesday morning. He was not handcuffed and was in a special agent’s vehicle, when he took control of the vehicle and fled from law enforcement, fleeing from Oregon until his arrest in Cowlitz County, according to Homeland Security Investigations.
He was returned to Homeland Security Investigation’s custody, and the Cowlitz County Sheriff’s Office will be requesting a warrant for Grygla on multiple charges relating to this incident.
