A Homewood police patrol vehicle was stolen Monday night and eventually crashed in Chicago Heights, officials said.
Homewood and Chicago Ridge police began pursuing the vehicle at around 9:30 p.m. Monday near the intersection of Halsted Street and Ridge Road. By 10 p.m., police said the car was involved in a crash at State Street and Joe Orr Road in Chicago Heights where they were able to take a man into custody.
Police arrested 40-year-old Karl Williams of Cicero at the scene. He is currently facing two felony counts of theft of government property and possession of a stolen motor vehicle.
Authorities did not immediately respond to questions on how Williams was able to gain control of the squad car but said no officers were injured.
