He said he always wanted to be a cop.
But Christopher Kim wound up in handcuffs instead.
Kim, 20, was busted on Wednesday after stealing an unmarked police car in St. George and driving off in it, authorities allege.
The events unfolded at about 6:10 p.m., said a criminal complaint.
The Montvale, N.J. resident entered a gray 2019 Dodge which was parked near Wall Street and Stuyvesant Place by the 120th Precinct stationhouse, the complaint said.
A law enforcement source said a key fob was inside the unmarked vehicle.
Kim drove off but was stopped after running a red light on Richmond Terrace and Stuyvesant, said police.
The defendant appeared disoriented, and his speech was slurred, police said.
The complaint quotes him as explaining his actions this way: “I was just trying to live my dream of being a police officer.”
Kim also told police he “smoked a little weed,” said the complaint.
The defendant became uncooperative when officers tried to arrest him, flailing his arms and tensing his body, the complaint said.
He was charged with felony counts of grand larceny and stolen-property possession.
He was also accused of unauthorized vehicle use, operating while impaired by drugs and resisting arrest.
The name of Kim’s lawyer was not immediately available.
An NYPD spokeswoman said the incident is under review.
