Chattanooga Police responded to an armed robbery on Brainerd Road Saturday evening.

Officials say a suspect robbed customers at the Tiffany Nails on 5509 Brainerd Road around 5:40 p.m.

A witness who works nearby says she saw a man walk towards the salon acting suspicious. She says shortly after, a customer of Tiffany Nails told her to call the police, they’d just been robbed.

Shortly after, a suspect, 46-year-old Darryl Roberts was located at the CVS Pharmacy on Brainerd Road and taken into custody.

A second suspect, 37-year-old Antonio Sheffield of Mississippi , ran into the Economy Inn.

Sheffield was flashing what appeared to be FBI badge and opened fire on police. Police returned fire and he ran confronting an officer in a stairwell. The suspect hit the officer in the head with a gun and ran.

Police say Sheffield took the officers patrol car with Roberts in the back seat.

According to officers on the scene, Sheffield led police on a chase down Interstate 75 into Georgia with police in pursuit.

Police say Sheffield wrecked the patrol car and took his own life before the police could apprehend him.

Roberts was arrested and charged with attempted first degree murder, aggravated burglary, reckless endangerment, possession of a firearm while in commission of felony, and possession of drug paraphernalia. The second suspect has not been identified. However, investigators determined he was not involved in the robbery at Tiffany and the charges were dropped.
