A parking enforcement officer employed by the city has been reprimanded for leaving his municipal vehicle unsecured, only to have it stolen.
It was a couple of weeks ago when the employee, who has not been publicly identified, left the key in the ignition while the vehicle was unattended, only to find that within minutes, a man had jumped in and driven it away.
The vehicle was recovered with only the employee’s personal items stolen, said Police Chief Douglas Solomon.
He said a Department of Public Works employee witnessed the incident, but was unable to get a good look at the suspect.
The incident remains under investigation and the city employee was disciplined internally for leaving the car unsecured, Solomon said.
