Garden City police arrested a woman they say tried to steal their police cruiser on Monday.
Around 7:30 a.m., officers were called to the 300 block of N. 3rd Street to check on the welfare of a woman who was lying in the street.
They arrived and made contact with 37-year-old Andrea Diaz who they say was acting erratic and ignored verbal commands from the officer.
Police say Diaz walked towards the officer’s patrol vehicle, entered on the driver’s side and said she was going to take the vehicle. Officers stopped her.
They arrested Diaz after a brief struggle which caused minor injury to one of the officers.
She was booked into the Finney County jail for aggravated assault of a law enforcement officer, interference of a law enforcement officer, attempted theft, battery of a law enforcement officer and criminal trespassing.
