Lakewood police arrested a man Wednesday evening after he reportedly stole a patrol vehicle and drove off.

Lakewood police responded to a mental health call around 8 p.m. Wednesday at 9800 Veterans Drive. When they encountered the suspect, the man managed to get inside the officer’s patrol car and drive away.

Officers tracked down the suspect on northbound I-5 at 72nd Street, pulled him over, and took him into custody. Police said the suspect was in the car for roughly 10 minutes.

There was no damage done to the vehicle, nothing was stolen, and there were no weapons inside the vehicle, police said.

Police have not released the identity or age of the suspect, but told KOMO News he was booked into jail.

No officers were hurt during the incident.
