A Grande Prairie man has been charged with various offences after he damaged vehicles, ran from police, allegedly stole an unsecured police cruiser over the weekend in the city.
The incident occurred on Saturday, August 28 at around 10:20 p.m. when officers were called to Westpointe Drive for a complaint of a male swinging a bat at vehicles.
When officers arrived at the scene, the man began to flee on foot.
As officers pursued the man, he found and drove off in an unsecured police vehicle. The man drove the vehicle erratically and eventually ended up driving off the road and into a bush in the area of 99 Avenue and 102 Street.
The male then exited the vehicle and tried to flee on foot from police. He was arrested shortly after with help from the Grande Prairie RCMP Police Dog Services.
RCMP have charged 43-year-old Jean-Claude Seguin with possession of a weapon for dangerous purpose, two counts of resisting arrest, theft of a motor vehicle, flight from a peace officer, attempt to disarm peace officer, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle and four counts of possession of a firearm while prohibited.
Seguin was remanded into custody and was scheduled to appear in Grande Prairie Provincial Court on Monday.
