WALB previously reported that a woman stole an APD patrol vehicle while officers were responding to a call at an apartment complex on Gillionville Road, then struck multiple vehicles on Monday, June 21.
According to an incident report, an officer was dispatched to 2611 Gillionville Road for an “unknown problem” and made contact with Teannia Broadnax, who appeared to be in distress and was not initially responsive to questions. Police said Broadnax indicated a boyfriend was inside the apartment, but officers were unable to locate anyone inside when they announced themselves.
The report states officers requested EMS because Broadnax said she had anxiety issues. While first responders attempted to evaluate her, Broadnax continued to act erratically. Police said they also contacted a supervisor and requested the REACH crisis response team.
While waiting, officers spoke with Broadnax’s son, Kingston Reyes, who told police only he and his mother were home and said she did not have a boyfriend, the report states. Reyes also provided officers with a small container of pills without a label and said Broadnax was supposed to take them daily with water, according to the report.
Police said Broadnax later got into an unattended patrol vehicle and drove off. As an officer approached the complex exit, one driver reported their vehicle had been struck and said Broadnax continued east on Gillionville Road, the report states. Police then found another damaged vehicle, and a witness reported Broadnax was traveling north.
Officers later located Broadnax in the 400 block of Bennington Lane, where she was placed in handcuffs, the report states. Police said a supervisor was notified and the incident was recorded on a department-issued body camera.
