7/19/24 Memphis, TN – Suspicious Person Call At Shopping Center – Man Ran Off And Stole A Squad Car – Man Captured With Injuries

 A man is in custody after running away from police and stealing a squad car, according to the Memphis Police Department (MPD).

Just before 6:00 Friday evening, officers arrived to a suspicious person call near the shopping center at the corner of Stage Road and Covington Pike. MPD said that when officers tried to talk to the man, he ran off, then stole a police car.

Police said they were able to take the man into custody at James Road and Old Austin Peay.

The man was taken to Regional One with injuries.
