Agents with the Georgia Bureau of Investigation are investigating an officer-involved shooting where the suspect allegedly stole a patrol vehicle, was shot after a chase and fight with deputies, and then transported to a Dothan area hospital.
On Thursday night, the unidentified male suspect was arrested on a D.U.I charge after a car crash and was transported to the Seminole County Jail early Friday morning.
According to the GBI, the man was able to get away from deputies at the jail and stole a patrol vehicle from the parking lot, but deputies were able to catch him, and during a struggle to get the suspect out of the car, deputies shot the man once.
GBI Agents say the man drove off after being shot but was soon caught a second time and was able to fight off several deputies again, even being tased without effect and taking the taser away from a deputy.
Eventually, deputies subdued the man and arrested him on the scene, according to the GBI.
Seminole County Sheriff Heath Elliott says the suspect was transported to Southeast Health in Dothan and is in good condition.
The identity of the suspect has not been released, and Sheriff Elliott says the deputy who shot the suspect has been suspended with pay.
No deputies were harmed in the incident and the GBI is in charge of the investigation.
