A woman stole a Fort Wayne police car Monday afternoon and crashed it into another vehicle after officers had just released her from a call, police said.
Officers were called to a home in the 1000 block of Columbia Avenue around 3:10 p.m. for a report of an unwanted person. When they arrived, they found a woman who appeared incoherent, police said.
After investigating, officers determined no crime had happened and let the woman go. Shortly after being released, the woman got into an unlocked marked police car and drove away from the scene. Officers chased her briefly before she crashed the stolen patrol car into another vehicle at the intersection of East State and St. Joseph boulevards.
Both the woman and the driver of the other car were taken to a local hospital. No serious injuries were reported.
Fort Wayne police and the Allen County Prosecutor’s Office are investigating.
