4/20/23 Covington, GA – Inmate Working On Work Detail Steals Covington Police Unmarked Police Vehicle – Civilian Found Him And Held Him At Gun Point – Captured

Update 6:30 p.m.: According to the NCSO, Morgan was taken into custody.

“Tyler Morgan has been apprehended. A citizen saw him and held him at gunpoint until law enforcement officials arrived.”

Initial report: Authorities in Georgia are searching for an inmate who escaped work detail and drove off in a police vehicle.

According to the Newton County Sheriff’s Office, Tyler Morgan escaped while working at the Covington Police Department facility Thursday.

Officials say Morgan escaped in a CPD unmarked grey Ford Crown Victoria patrol car.

Morgan is described as 6 feet, 150 pounds with blonde hair and blue eyes. He has visible tattoos on his right arm.

According to the Newton County Sheriff’s Office, Morgan was jailed for a probation violation stemming from a felony burglary case.
