A man is in custody Wednesday night after deputies said he stole a deputy’s car in Wayne County.
According to the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to a call around 7:30 p.m. on Ranch Drive near Mount Olive. During the incident, authorities said Jorge Luis Cervantes, 33, got away from deputies, jumped into a patrol car and drove away.
The sheriff’s office said Cervantes led deputies on a chase before being stopped on West Main Street Extension near Mount Olive. No one was injured.
Cervantes was charged with assault with a deadly weapon on a government official, possession of a stolen motor vehicle, larceny of a motor vehicle, driving while impaired, fleeing or eluding arrest with a motor vehicle, reckless driving to endanger and larceny of law enforcement equipment.
