A 26-year-old Kansas City, Kansas man is charged following a high-speed chase in a stolen police vehicle that ended in a rollover crash.

Jackson County prosecutors charged Jorge Castrejon on Wednesday with aggravated fleeing a stop or detention and first-degree tampering with a motor vehicle.

According to court documents, Kansas City police officers responded to the Gary Crossley Ford Dealership on Monday afternoon for a stolen auto report.

Officers learned two vehicles were stolen over the weekend and another was still on the property but was damaged. The two navy blue 2026 Ford Explorers, valued at $30,000, belonged to the KC Board of Police Commissioners, according to court documents.

One vehicle was found abandoned and towed by the Kansas City Police Department (KCPD) on Monday.

On Tuesday morning, officers with the KCPD SWAT Team were informed of a chase coming into Kansas City, Missouri from Kansas. They were informed that the Kansas Highway Patrol (KHP) was chasing a blue 2026 Ford Explorer.

According to KCPD, the chase lasted several blocks, with the driver of the stolen Ford speeding westbound on Independence Avenue before failing to make a left turn onto southbound Indiana Avenue.

The missed turn caused the stolen SUV to slide, hit a curb, overturn, and then crash into a wooden electrical pole and a building. Both the pole and the building had minor damage in the crash.

KCPD said the male driver of the Ford, later identified as Castrejon, had non-life-threatening injuries and was taken to a hospital. The front seat female passenger also had non-life-threatening injuries and refused medical treatment at the scene.

The police department told FOX4 on Tuesday that the stolen vehicles had not been equipped with police identification markings or law enforcement equipment. The vehicles were never in KCPD’s possession.

Castrejon is currently being held in the Jackson County jail on a $50,000 cash-only bond.

He’s scheduled to appear in Jackson County Court on Thursday, March 19, for a bond review hearing at 9:30 a.m. He’s then scheduled to appear in court for a preliminary hearing at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, April 8.
