A Scranton woman was arrested Saturday after she allegedly pointed a gun at two city police officers and stole a police cruiser.Police arrived at Amanda Bordo’s 419 New York St. home for threats of suicide at 3:40 p.m. Ms. Bordo, 19, had told her mother she “did not want to be here anymore,” police said. When Officer Dave Mitchell opened her door to speak with her, she pointed a gun – later identified as an Airstrike pellet gun – at him.
Officers left the home with her mother, Linda Bordo, who explained to police that her daughter’s boyfriend had recently committed suicide.
The younger Ms. Bordo ran onto the porch and pointed the gun at Officer Rocco Cipriano, yelling expletives at him, police said. She ran in and out of the home before getting into Officer Mitchell’s patrol vehicle, which was parked in front of the home with the engine running.
She drove the car west on New York Street, but her attempt to drive between two vehicles blocking the intersection failed. She was forcibly removed from the car, and a steak knife and the pellet gun were recovered on the passenger seat, according to police.
Ms. Bordo, bleeding after cutting herself with the knife, was transported to Geisinger Community Medical Center, police said.
Nearly a dozen officers, many wearing protective equipment, and at least eight police vehicles were still near the home about 5:30 p.m. Saturday.
Amanda Bordo was charged with aggravated and simple assault, recklessly endangering another person, harassment, theft, receiving stolen property and disorderly conduct.
Information was not available Saturday night on bail or a preliminary hearing.
