Indianapolis police were searching for a suspect who stole a police car on the city’s northeast side early Thursday evening, officials said.
The unmarked car was stolen from a business in the 7000 block of East 21st Street, which is near 21st Street and Shadeland Avenue, around 5:30 p.m.
The car was later recovered a few blocks from where it was taken just after 6 p.m., but police were still searching for the suspect.
Officials said the car did have weapons inside and may have belonged to an undercover vice squad officer, RTV6 reporter Jack Rinehart reported.
A gun that was in the police car was not taken, officials said.
The suspect was wanted by police prior to the incident, officials said.
Few other details were released.
