A suspect is in custody following a multi-vehicle crash involving a stolen Schoharie County Sheriff’s Office patrol vehicle early Tuesday morning, according to the Schoharie County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies responded to Central Bridge at approximately 5:30 a.m. on December 30, 2025, following a report of a stolen vehicle. During the investigation, authorities determined that more than one vehicle had been stolen from the immediate area, with each later found abandoned nearby.

While investigating the initial thefts, a Schoharie County Sheriff’s Office patrol vehicle was also stolen from the scene. Law enforcement agencies attempted to stop the stolen patrol car, but officers eventually lost sight of the vehicle.

A perimeter was later established, and officers stationed at the intersection of Wetsel Hollow Road and Schoharie Hill Road observed the stolen patrol vehicle traveling westbound on Schoharie Hill Road. The vehicle then crashed into two other drivers’ vehicles, leaving both the stolen patrol car and another vehicle inoperable.

Authorities immediately took the suspect into custody. Medical aid was provided to both the suspect and the other drivers involved in the crash.

The suspect has been charged with multiple offenses, including:

  • Grand Larceny
  • Driving While Ability Impaired by Drugs
  • Criminal Possession of a Weapon
  • Burglary
  • Criminal Trespass
  • Criminal Mischief
  • Assault
  • Reckless Endangerment
  • Multiple Vehicle and Traffic Law violations
