  • UPDATE: The officer shot at a Circle K off of Highway 153 late Sunday, December 28, has been released from the hospital, the Chattanooga Police Department says. The officer is continuing to recover at home.

    The officer and suspect have still not been identified.

    PREVIOUS STORY: The Chattanooga Police Department tells Local 3 News that three officers are on leave, as is standard procedure, while the TBI investigates the Sunday night shooting in Hixson. 

    After police arrived at a Circle K off of Hwy. 153, a suspect fired his gun, striking one officer. Three officers fired back, before the suspect stole a patrol vehicle. 

    The suspect was later caught in Sequatchie County, and discovered to have been shot as well. 

    The officers are on paid administrative leave. 

    The TBI is investigating. 

    PREVIOUS STORY: The Dunlap Fire Department assisted law enforcement in retrieving the police car stolen by a suspect who shot an officer on Sunday night. 

    Fire officials said officers chased the suspect in the stolen squad car into Sequatchie County. The suspect wrecked off East Valley Road from Highway 111. 

    PREVIOUS STORY: Chattanooga police (CPD) said an officer is now in stable condition after being shot by a suspect at a Circle K gas station Sunday night on Highway 153. 

    Upon arrival, the suspect began shooting at Chattanooga officers, striking one. Then, officers returned fire before the suspect stole a Chattanooga police car and fled the scene, CPD said. 

    Officers said the suspect eventually crashed in Sequatchie County, along Highway 111, and then tried to run away from the crash. However, authorities captured the man. 

    Once in custody, police discovered the suspect was injured in the shooting, but his injuries were not life-threatening. The suspect and officer who was shot were both taken to a hospital. 

    Officers involved in the shooting were placed on paid administrative leave, CPD said. The TBI is now investigating. 

    PREVIOUS STORY: The suspect who shot a Chattanooga police officer Sunday night at a Highway 153 gas station was then shot by officers before stealing a patrol car, the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation (TBI) says. 

    After the suspect shot an officer, “multiple officers returned fire” and shot the suspect, according to the TBI. 

    That suspect then fled the scene in an empty police car, all the way into Sequatchie County. 

    Officers and Tennessee Highway Patrol troopers pursued the man in a chase, which ended on Highway 111 where they arrested him. 

    The TBI said both the suspect and injured officer were taken to a hospital for treatment. 

    The identities of the suspect and injured officer, and the seriousness of their injuries, are currently unknown. 

    The TBI’s investigation is ongoing. 

    PREVIOUS STORY: Authorities confirm a Chattanooga police officer was shot late Sunday night, and the suspect stole a police car. The officer is in stable condition.  

    It began with a shots fired call at the Circle K on Highway 153 in Hixson, just before 11:30pm. Upon police arrival, the suspect opened fire, striking and injuring an officer. 

    The suspect fled the scene in the stolen police car, but was taken into custody in Sequatchie County. 

    The Circle K on Highway 153 has since reopened. 

    PREVIOUS STORY: A Chattanooga Police Dept. officer was shot and taken to the hospital after responding to a shooting Sunday night.

    According to the Chattanooga Police Department, officers responded to a shots fired call at the Circle K at 5501 Highway 153 at around 11:24pm. 

    As soon as they arrived on scene, the suspect opened fire, injuring an officer. 

    Chattanooga police said the suspect fled the scene but was taken into custody in Sequatchie County. 

    The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation will lead the investigation, and we’ve reached out to learn more. 

    The Circle K reopened for business and the scene was cleared just before 6:00am on Monday morning.
