A police SUV from the Upstate that contained some “police gear” was stolen Friday from a Columbia parking garage at 1200 Hampton Street. The Chevrolet Tahoe belonged to Michael Miller, a SWAT member with the Anderson County Sheriff’s office who is also the director of the Anderson-Oconee Regional Drug Lab, according to ACSO spokesman Chad McBride.
The Columbia Police Department say the SUV was recovered in Columbia on Laurel Street. CPD is processing it for any possible evidence.
McBride said Miller was in Columbia for training, but he wasn’t certain of the circumstances surrounding the theft.
McBride said it’s likely the thief broke into the SUV’s steering column and hot-wired the vehicle. No key was left inside the Tahoe, McBride said.
