The Mississippi Highway Patrol is searching for a man accused of stealing a trooper’s vehicle.
MHP pulled over a pickup truck about 8 a.m. Wednesday on U.S. 49 in Simpson County, authorities said. A trooper took Sean Patrick Sharp, 29, into custody, authorities said.
Sharp was handcuffed with his hands behind his back, but was able to manipulate his arms in front of him, Cpl. Kervin Stewart said. MHP released a screengrab photo of Sharp that was recorded during the traffic stop.
“While in custody, the subject managed to take possession of an MHP patrol car, leading to a pursuit,” Stewart said. “The subject made it to a residence and stole another vehicle.”
Troopers searched the area of Mississippi 13 and Mississippi 149 in Mendenhall, where Sharp was last seen on foot. Investigators believe Sharp has stolen a third vehicle — a black Honda, which contains a 9 mm gun.
Sharp is also wanted in Warren County on a vehicle theft charge, Stewart said.
