4 p.m. UPDATE: Investigators are searching for Larry James Brookshire after they say he escaped after an arrest by Sacramento County probation officers.

The probation vehicle he was accused of escaping in, a blue Ford Explorer, was recovered on the 3200 block of Truxel Road.

He’s described as standing 5’8″, weighing 140 pounds, and wearing blue jeans and a black T-shirt. He may be wearing handcuffs.

Investigators say he is on probation for being a felon in possession of a firearm, but did not say what prompted Tuesday’s arrest.

Lockdowns at Jefferson Elementary and Bannon Elementary Schools have been lifted.

Officers are looking for a suspect who apparently stole an unmarked law enforcement vehicle and ended up in the Natomas area Tuesday afternoon.

According to the Sacramento County Probation Department, officers took 40-year-old Larry James Brookshire into custody late Tuesday morning for an outstanding felony no-bail warrant.
Officials say that, while handcuffed in the unmarked probation vehicle, Brookshire was able to maneuver his way into the front of the car and take off.

Witnesses say the suspect was seen heading northbound on Truxel Road. The probation vehicle was soon recovered along the 3200 block of Truxel Road, but Brookshire was nowhere to be found.
Other local agencies have now been called to help set up a perimeter and find Brookshire.

Two area schools, Bannon Creek and Jefferson, were put on precautionary lockdown due to the perimeter.
