10/16/20 Kalamazoo, MI – Patrol Vehicle Stolen From Officer That Escorted Woman In Distress To Borgess Hospital – Felony Stop – Arrested

A Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety cruiser was stolen near a hospital, but quickly recovered, police said.

The patrol vehicle was taken while an officer escorted a woman in distress into Borgess Hospital on Friday, Oct. 16.

Just a few minutes after it was taken, police in Kalamazoo and Kalamazoo Township teamed up and made a felony stop on the cruiser. The vehicle and items inside were not damaged, police said.

The person who took the cruiser was arrested on in initial charge of auto theft.

Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety Chief Vernon Coakley, in a written statement, said he planned to reinforce with staff the department’s policies regarding police vehicles.
