1/10/25 Lakeway, TX – Man Suspected Of Stolen Vehicle Attempted To Steal An Unmarked Detective Police Car While Detectives Had The Stolen Car Under Surveillance

Police following a stolen vehicle suspect arrested a Lockhart man after he allegedly tried to steal the officers’ vehicle.

On Jan. 4, Lakeway police officers received a license plate reader alert for a vehicle that had been reported as stolen.

Officers were able to track down the vehicle and found it parked and unoccupied in the 400 block of Fantail Loop.

Police used an unmarked vehicle to keep watch on the vehicle in hopes of apprehending the driver.

During the surveillance operation, police saw a man leave a residence near the stolen car.

Instead of going to the stolen car, the suspect approached the police vehicle and opened the door in an apparent attempt to steal that car.

The suspect ran when he saw the officers sitting inside.

Police apprehended the suspect, Dakota Kennedy of Lockhart.

Officers found drugs and a key to the original stolen car in Kenney’s possession after the arrest.

Johnson has been charged with unauthorized use of a vehicle, engaging in organized criminal activity, possession of a controlled substance and evading arrest.
