A woman is in custody after Grand Rapids police say she stole a police cruiser while an officer responded to a fight.
Police were called to the 1300 block of Leonard Street NW east of Walker Avenue NW around 4 a.m. Tuesday for reports of a fight and a person with a gun.
Dispatchers told 24 Hour News 8 as police approached the home, the suspect ran from the scene.
An officer chased the woman, but lost sight of her.
Authorities say the officer left the keys to the cruiser inside the vehicle and the suspect got inside the vehicle and fired it up.
Police say the suspect traveled a few blocks, driving onto the sidewalk at 11th Street NW and Powers Avenue NW before running from the scene.
Officers used a police K-9 to track the suspect, who was arrested on charges of operating a vehicle while under the influence, stealing a vehicle and obstructing justice.
Authorities have not released additional suspect information or if the cruiser was damaged.
