A man who ran from the Nueces County Courthouse right around 6 p.m. is back in custody after trying to steal two police cars.
According to police, he took off while being moved into the jail and tried to carjack an AEP worker’s pickup truck, but the worker fought back.
The escapee then took off running towards Antelope and I-37. Police set up a perimeter to search for him, when out of the blue he came running from Howard’s BBQ.
Our camera was there as he jumped behind the wheel of a police car, but found out the keys were not in the ignition. He jumped out and headed for another police car. This time, he locked the doors to keep police out.
The officers just busted out the window to get him. Jose Rodriguez, 37, now faces a very long list of charges.
Investigators confirm that Rodriguez had just been taken into custody for his alleged role in a stabbing at the Cactus Motel overnight.
