A high speed chase through the mountains ended with a mangled Clear Creek Sheriff’s Office SUV and an 18-year-old girl facing serious charges.

Around 9:53 a.m. Sunday, a Clear Creek deputy pulled over a teenage driver near Georgetown.

Radio dispatch recordings tell the story of a wild ride.

“I’ve got a red SUV. Party is not cooperating [and] not getting out of their vehicle,” a Clear Creek Deputy told dispatchers. “They already ran into my vehicle.”

An 18-year-old girl was behind the wheel of that SUV, according to a spokesperson for the Colorado State Patrol.

Clear Creek deputies have not yet released the teenager’s name.

“She’s combative but she’s in the back of [the deputy’s] car now,” an officer told dispatchers around 10:00 a.m.

At 10:02 a.m., as deputies continued investigating, they say the teenage girl somehow escaped from her handcuffs, climbed out of the cage, jumped in the drivers’ seat, and took off in the patrol car.

“We’re westbound 224. Speeds are 100,” a state trooper told dispatchers. ” She’s got lights and sirens on in the deputy’s car. It’s an unmarked white Expedition, Excursion.”

Colorado State Patrol joined in the chase at 10:10 a.m.

Officers tried using stop sticks to disable the stolen SUV as it raced along I-70, but those stop sticks only deflated one of the tires, and the teenage suspect kept going.

Officers called for TVI, which stands for Tactical Vehicle Intervention. That’s when a trained officer is called in to ram the back the stolen vehicle, running it off the road.

“I’m going to fall back and let them take the lead,” a state trooper told dispatchers. “See if we can get this car stopped.”

Clear Creek deputies tried twice to knock the 18-year-old girl off the road using TVI.

“She has not lost control,” a Clear Creek Deputy told dispatchers. “She’s very arrogant. She is doing that to keep me from getting up on her. Vehicle is still intact.”

The teenage suspect continued weaving in and out of light traffic, zooming through the Eisenhower tunnel, past Silverthorne into Frisco.

At 10:29 a.m. near mile marker 200, a Colorado State Patrol trooper attempted TVI one more time, and successfully rammed the stolen Sheriff’s Office SUV off the road.

The vehicle veered off the road, rolled over, and crashed into a rock wall.

Pictures taken by a passing driver and posted on Twitter show the mangled SUV after the crash.

The teenage girl was in custody at 10:30 a.m.

Deputies called for an ambulance for the suspect and the chase was over.

That 18-year-old girl was taken to a hospital in Summit County.

Traffic was light during the chase and no other drivers were hurt.

Charges for the teenager are still pending.
