Cumberland County deputies shot a 19-year-old burglary suspect Wednesday after she managed to take off her handcuffs and flee in a patrol car.

Victoria Rose Gaw, 19, of Cumberland County led officers on a high speed chase. According to a Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office release, the pursuit ended on Taylors Chapel Road where Gaw tried to run over two deputies. One of the deputies shot into the vehicle striking Gaw. Air Evac took Gaw to University of Tennessee Medical Center where she is listed in stable condition.

Before the high speed pursuit, authorities were investigating a burglary at a home in the Claysville area. Officers arrested Michael Shawn Walker, 26, behind the residence.

While they were arresting Walker, deputies saw Walker’s girlfriend, Gaw, speed out of the neighbor’s property in a Toyota pickup. Authorities stopped Gaw and arrested her. While in the she was in the patrol car, Gaw managed to take off her handcuffs, climb through the vehicle’s sliding window and drive off in the patrol car.

Gaw is facing two counts of attempted second degree murder, felony reckless endangerment, theft over $10,000, aggravated burglary, and theft charges. Authorities charged Walker with aggravated burglary, theft of property, and outstanding arrest warrants.

The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation is investigating the officer-related shooting. The deputy is on paid administrative leave pending the investigation.
