Police say she was high on cocaine and she didn’t get more than 50 yards, but 24-year-old Lamaiya Page was still able to steal an LMPD vehicle.

It happened Wednesday afternoon on Taylor Blvd., near I-264, just after 3:30.

Police say an officer was dispatched to that location on a report of a woman who was causing trouble. When the officer got there, they found Page, who was allegedly “talking out of her head.”

According to an arrest report, Page tried to get in the police vehicle and began hitting it with her hand. The officer tried to ask her questions, but police say she could not sufficiently answer them, due to her “being high on crack cocaine.”

Somehow, Page managed to get into the LMPD vehicle, after a brief struggle, according to the arrest report. The officer jumped in as well.

That’s when, police say, Page put the vehicle in gear and managed to drive it 50 yards. The vehicle was driven from the north side of I-264 to the south side of I-264 with the driver’s side door open, according to the arrest report.

Police say Page placed the officer in harm’s way and could have caused “death or serious physical injury.”

She was arrested and charged with theft of an auto, wanton endangerment of a police officer, operating a motor vehicle under the influence of alcohol or drugs and menacing, according to the arrest report.
