A woman driving a stolen police cruiser allegedly crashed into an SUV in Fayetteville on Saturday night, which killed one person and injured four others including a teenager.
Witnesses at the Marathon gas station on Main Avenue South reported seeing a police car crash into a gas pump that night.
According to the Tennessee Highway Patrol, Misty Shelton, 49, of Flintville, pulled onto Maple Street in that stolen police cruiser and T-boned the SUV carrying five people. Henry Holt, 55, of West Point died; at least two people are in critical condition. Shelton was also injured.
Sgt. Bill Miller said Shelton was in the process of being arrested for public intoxication at the time when the police cruiser was stolen.
The THP report shows there will be criminal charges involved in this crash, but those are being discussed with the District Attorney.
The report also shows Holt was the only victim not wearing his seatbelt in the SUV, but THP officers said that wouldn’t have made a difference in the crash.
The investigation remains ongoing.
