Police tried to stop Fisher from driving away with their car, but he managed to put it in gear and drive away. Fisher was stopped a few blocks away, but managed to evade police on foot and wasn’t apprehended until 6:20 p.m. at his home in the 1400 block of South Cicero Avenue. He was charged with possession of a stolen law enforcement vehicle, aggravated fleeing and eluding, misdemeanor escape from a peace officer, obstructing identification, and theft. He’s currently under police guard at Mount Sinai Hospital being treated for an unknown ailment.
The lesson learned here (or not, in Fisher’s case): don’t steal a police vehicle. In January 2012, an Indiana man stole a squad car while handcuffed and even had the temerity to radio into police headquarters to ask for where the keys were located. Police found that squad car abandoned in a drainage ditch.
