A Cobb County police officer is injured after investigators said a woman, Emmerli Wilcoxson, drove off with one of their cruisers.

Police said they responded to Windy Hill Road in Cobb County where a 911 caller reported Wilcoxson standing in the street with a weapon. Police tried using a stun gun on the woman but that didn’t work. Officers then got in a physical altercation with Wilcoxson.  She was able to break free, get into a police car and take off.

Officers chased Wilcoxson into Atlanta where the chase in some areas reached 100 mph. Police say Wilcoxson was yelling at them over the police radio during the chase.

“We thought it was odd Cobb County would be out of jurisdiction, so it would probably have to pivot obviously from Cobb for it to get to this level,” said Carolyn Mitchell, a witness.

The incident ended in a four-vehicle crash. Officers said Wilcoxson rear-ended a vehicle, which sent both cars into a wall. Police worked to free one person from one of the vehicles involved.

According to police, after the crash Wilcoxson got out of the car and took a fighting stance against officers. It took several officers to get her in handcuffs.

“We saw some other Cobb County cops wrestling an African-American woman to the ground,” Mitchell.

One driver suffered injuries to his lower body. One police officer injured her knee fighting with the suspect. Wilcoxson suffered trauma to the head.

Cobb County Police say they will be reviewing this incident to see if all procedures were properly followed.
