Police say the manhunt for a western New York sex offender who bolted from his parole officer has ended with the man killing himself.Buffalo police tell local media that 28-year-old Demone Frazier got into a fight with the parole officer Thursday morning and escaped with a gun and the officer’s vehicle. That touched off a search that ended when SWAT team members heard a shot at a city housing project at about 12:30 p.m.

Investigators say officers found Frazier dead with a gunshot wound they believe was self-inflicted.

State records show Frazier had been on parole since December 2009 after doing prison time for a third-degree rape conviction.
