A Youngstown man is facing a laundry list of charges after Columbus Police say he stole a cruiser from the Short North.
Joshua Huynh, 31, is accused of driving off with an officer’s car on August 19th, while police were trying to stop a fight on North High Street. Charging documents state, cruiser video recordings captured Huynh enter the driver’s side door and take off. Less than a minute after the car drives away, dash cam video from the stolen vehicle shows the cruiser slamming into a parked car on Dennison Avenue.
COLUMBUS, Ohio — A Youngstown man is facing a laundry list of charges after Columbus Police say he stole a cruiser from the Short North.
Joshua Huynh, 31, is accused of driving off with an officer’s car on August 19th, while police were trying to stop a fight on North High Street. Charging documents state, cruiser video recordings captured Huynh enter the driver’s side door and take off. Less than a minute after the car drives away, dash cam video from the stolen vehicle shows the cruiser slamming into a parked car on Dennison Avenue.
“Just seeing it is insane,” said Alain Beauvais, who owns the Volvo that was wrecked when it was hit by the stolen CPD car.
“The whole thing was shocking to me,” said Beauvais.
Huynh now faces several charges , including grand theft of a motor vehicle, hit-skip, failure to control, and OVI-impaired. Columbus Police tell us an administrative investigation is expected to be conducted, and that the officer who had his cruiser stolen could face minor disciplinary action.
Huynh was arrested a few minutes after the crash not far from the crash scene. He is now out on bond awaiting his next court hearing.
