A 26-year-old Georgia woman was arrested by the Walton County Sheriff’s Office Wednesday for stealing a WCSO investigators vehicle and driving while intoxicated.
At about 9:04 p.m. on Wednesday, a WCSO investigator reported his agency car had been stolen by his brother’s girlfriend, Britney Michelle Simpson. According to a WCSO press release, the couple was visiting the investigator. The release said Simpson argued with her boyfriend and wanted to leave in her car, but her boyfriend didn’t let her because she was intoxicated.
Simpson searched the home and found the keys to the WCSO car and drove away in that car. Her boyfriend tried to stop her, reminding her it was a WCSO car, to which the release said she responded “she didn’t care.” The investigator was not at home when the car was taken.
Police thought Simpson was driving to the Destin area, alerting other area agencies to assist and set up check points. About 20 minutes later, Simpson returned to the investigator’s home, dropped off the WCSO car and got into her own car. A deputy stopped her a short distance from the home.
Simpson was charged with driving under the influence and grand theft auto. According to the release, Simpson is being held in Walton County Jail on a $10,000 bond.
