A woman escaped from handcuffs inside a Saunders County sheriff’s patrol car and then stole the car, the Sheriff’s Office said.
The incident happened Sunday evening in Memphis, Neb. The cruiser was recovered undamaged, and the woman was arrested.
A deputy had been responding to a report of someone making terroristic threats and had the woman handcuffed inside the cruiser while he interviewed witnesses, the Sheriff’s Office said.
The woman, Jessica L. Lewin, was arrested on suspicion of five felonies — making terroristic threats, escape from custody, flight to avoid arrest, auto theft and possession of a controlled substance — and a misdemeanor, driving under suspension, the Sheriff’s Office said.
