What started as a response to downed power lines, resulted in a woman allegedly stealing and crashing a police cruiser.
Charlotte-Mecklenburg police say officers were responding to a call about a transformer stuck by lighting on J Julian Lane in west Charlotte Friday night when a police car was stolen.
As firefighters were working to control a fire that ignited on an electrical box, a woman reportedly ran out, without wearing pants, from between nearby houses. She said that someone was chasing her with a gun.
While officers were looking into her claim, police say she jumped into a police cruiser and started driving.
Officers say they chased after her for a short distance before she crashed the car into a retaining wall.
One person was taken to the hospital with minor injuries.
