06/15/14 Becker County, MN – Arrested Subject In Handcuffs Steals Becker County Sheriff’s Car – Escapes – Then Steals Van – 100 MPH Chase – 9 Agencies Involved

22-year-old Dyllon Glatzmaier of Naytahwaush is in jail after stealing a Becker County Sheriff’s Department squad car and another car near Osage, MN Saturday night.

A Becker County Sheriff’s deputy made a stop on Highway 34 near Witter Avenue in Osage just after 6PM Saturday. Glatzmaier was subsequently arrested on a warrant, possible other drug charges and giving the officer a false name. Glatzmaier was placed in handcuffs and put in the back seat of the patrol car, but was able to get the handcuffs in front of him, climb into the front seat through a small sliding window and drive the patrol car away. The deputy was searching Glatzmaier’s car when he drove away and was unable to stop him. Glatzmaier drove the squad car about a mile and then ran. Officers from nine different agencies then started an extensive search in Osage and the surrounding area.

Just before 10PM, the Becker County Sheriff’s Department got a report of a stolen van several miles northwest of Osage. They were able to find Glatzmaier and the van, but Glatzmaier drove off. Officers chased Glatzmaier for 18 miles at speeds between 90-100mph and were able to blow out the tires of the van using deflation devices at the intersection of County Highway 58 and County Highway 44. Glatzmaier continued for another mile with flat tires before the chase ended with police forcing the van off the road.

Sgt. Todd Glander with the Becker County Sheriff’s Department says, “As safely as possible, force the vehicle off the road at suitable speeds. It just immobilizes the vehicle. If the vehicle would have continued further, it would have endangered other people or other motorists.”

Glatzmaier is in the Becker County Jail pending charges of two counts of vehicle theft and fleeing an officer in a motor vehicle.
