A New Lenox Police officer encountered a dangerous situation this week after a 19-year-old man from Mokena called to notify police that he was having a bad experience using LSD. The bizarre incident later took a turn for the worse when Scott M. Ray Jr. attacked the New Lenox Police officer and tried to steal his squad car, police reports show.

The incident began around 1:37 a.m. Monday when an officer was sent to the intersection of Woodlawn and Southgate Roads after Ray was “advising he was having a bad reaction to illegal drugs he had taken,” reports state.

The New Lenox officer found the Mokena teenager, and then things took a scary turn.

“Ray advised the officer he had taken acid and was having a bad reaction. Ray then attempted to get into the officer’s vehicle while asking if he could drive the vehicle. Ray then began punching the squad car and eventually punched the officer in the face,” reports state.

Eventually, police regained control over Ray. They got him into custody. New Lenox’s Fire Protection District sent an ambulance and they took Ray to the Silver Cross Hospital for treatment.

Then, on Tuesday afternoon, Ray went for another ride, this time to the Will County Adult Detention Facility in downtown Joliet.

“Ray was taken into custody and charged with aggravated battery to a police officer,” reports show.

Ray resides in the 19500 block of Midland Avenue in Mokena.

Ray will go before a Will County judge for his bail hearing on Wednesday afternoon.
