Police in McDowell County are looking for suspects that stole a police cruiser then tried to steal an ATM.

A deputy from the McDowell County Sheriff’s Department tells Newswatch two suspects stole a police cruiser from Gary then tried to steal an ATM from the Bantam Market on Rt. 52 in Maitland over the weekend. The suspects weren’t able to get the machine out of the store, so they left and set the cruiser on fire.

Sheriff Martin West says video from the crime scene may be released once the prosecuting attorney’s office gives permission. The case is being handled by the Welch Police Department.
