A woman police were taking into custody resisted every step of the way. Officers had trouble getting her into the wagon to take her to jail for the second time Tuesday morning.”There are people that can slip handcuffs off,” explains Indianapolis Police Sgt. Tommy Sickels, “very few.” Apparently Keisha Harris is one of them.

Officers were called to an east side home for a domestic problem. That’s where they first met Harris, who they discovered was wanted on a felony warrant for resisting arrest.

She lived up to her reputation Tuesday.

Officers say they handcuffed her, but while they waited on a ride to take her away she got away. “She just bolts, gets in a police car and takes off.”

Inside the car was a loaded handgun.

IPD Sgt. Jack Simpson says, “There was a gun in a blue bag in the police car that she took.”

Debra Mackenzie heard the commotion outside her front door. That’s where Harris crashed into the wagon that was supposed to take her to jail and where her destructive path left an impression. “Heard this boom when she hit a tree.”

Officers recovered the stolen police car several blocks away. They caught up with Harris about a mile and several minutes later. This time she stayed in police custody, but not without putting up a fight.

One officer suffered minor injuries as she tried to catch Harris when she took off in the police car.

IPD says it will investigate exactly what happened and why.

Harris faces several charges, including resisting arrest, stealing a police car and injuring a police officer.
