Northwest Indiana police searched for a second day for an inmate who attacked a sheriff’s deputy and stole her police car as he was being moved from a hospital back to the jail.

Tippecanoe County Sheriff Barry Richard said Saturday 25-year-old Marcus Alan Bramlett remained at large Saturday evening.

Bramlett was arrested Tuesday on preliminary charges of battery on a police officer.

The Journal & Courier reports police have not disclosed how the handcuffed man was able to strike Deputy Jennifer Thompson and steal her police car Friday. Police found that car Saturday morning near Attica.

Richard says Thompson fired a shot at Bramlett, shattering the driver’s window, as he drove away. He says Bramlett is believed to be armed with a rifle stolen from the squad car.
