05/14/14 Farmington, MO – St. Francois County Sheriff’s Department Had A Hummer Stolen From Them – Video Has The Vehicle Doing A Smash And Grab

A Humvee owned by the St. Francois County Sheriff`s Department is stolen and then used by a smash and grab robber who broke into a gas station.

The county owns six former military Humvees, all donated by the Department of Defense after they were finished using them in Iraq and Afghanistan.

The stolen Humvee is painted in camouflage. Authorities believe it was stolen early on the morning of May 5, because at about 5:30 that morning, it shows up in security camera video at the Midway Gas Station on Route 32, in Ste. Genevieve county.

The video shows someone getting out of the Humvee, then using a rock to break the front glass door to steal cigarettes and a soda.  No money was taken.

The Humvee has not been spotted since, but St. Francois County Sheriff Daniel Bullock says it is hard to miss.

‘It`s got county plates on it so they are going to stand out and a big insignia of St. Francois County on it and it is not something they are going to be able to hide,’ he said.

‘They are going to have to put it away in the woods or somewhere back in the brush.’

Whoever stole the vehicle may have known what they were doing because military Humvees don`t start by using a key.

The stolen Humvee had been parked at the county road department, where there is also a security camera, but it was not turned on.

‘It`s bad when you steal from the Sheriff`s Department,’ Bullock said.

‘It is a matter of honor more than anything else.’
