Police arrested two people and are looking for a third fugitive after a car and a sheriff’s department vehicle were stolen in north Nashville on Tuesday.
An officer attempted to pull over a black Chevrolet Monte Carlo for a seatbelt violation on 24th Avenue North near Rosa Parks Boulevard when the car then sped away at a high speed.

The car stopped in the 1900 block of 28th Avenue North near Deerfield Drive, where three suspects ran from the car.

“All three suspects, for reasons unknown at this time, bailed,” said Metro police spokeswoman Kris Mumford.

Police said Lamantez Robinson, 18, and a 17-year-old suspect were arrested moments later, but the third suspect jumped into a marked Davidson County sheriff’s vehicle that was parked on Vance Street, where the deputy was assisting in the search for the suspects.

The third suspect then drove the deputy’s cruiser a short distance before crashing into a sport utility vehicle and then a tree along Salem Mason Drive before running away on foot.

“It’s a little bit unique, I think, for that vehicle to be in the hands of someone that it shouldn’t. And it’s pretty clear to know where to find it,” said Sheriff Daron Hall. “None of the weapons, none of the equipment was taken. The main thing, as it relates to the vehicle, is it’s back in custody.”

Robinson and the juvenile suspect face charges of loitering during school hours, reckless endangerment, auto theft and evading arrest.

Police said they do not have a description of the third suspect available to release, but they said he is believed to be armed.
