A man, who stole a police car and led authorities on a high-speed chase through parts of Downtown Sunday, is behind bars after crashing the car.

Police were called out to a possible home invasion on the 100 block of San Angelo where the man forced his way into the home and ordered everyone to the ground.

At some point, the suspect left the house and police began chasing him on foot. The suspect then tried to get into a patrol car, but the officer locked it remotely, but the suspect dove into an open window and steal the car.

Police said the suspect jumped through an open window to gain entry to the police car.

The 26-year-old suspect led police on a chase through downtown, past the Tobin Center before he lost control and crashing the cruiser head-on into a church security vehicle Avenue A and 4th Street.

Luckily, nobody was seriously injured, but police said that a woman sustained minor injuries after she was pushed over a railing to avoid being hit by the suspect.

Police took the suspect into custody then transported him to a nearby hospital for a cut on his forehead.

Suspect is facing several charges, including theft of the patrol car, evading and resisting arrest.
