04/26/14 Sastoon, Can. – Armed Man With Knife Steals Patrol Car – Drags Police Officer – Suspect Was Tased And Crashed The Patrol Car – Fled On Foot – Captured

A man is in police custody after causing a disturbance with a knife, evading police officers and stealing a patrol car Friday evening.

Police responded to a home in the 100 block of Powe St around 7 p.m. Friday, according to a news release.

They were confronted by an armed man. A Taser was used to try to stop the man, but he took possession of the patrol car and drove away. One officer was dragged a short distance and received minor injuries.

Five minutes later, the stolen car crashed into a truck on College Dr between Cumberland Ave and Campus Dr. The armed suspect attempted to flee the scene on foot but was apprehended by police officers and taken to hospital as a precaution.

The injured officer has been treated in hospital and released. No one else was injured.

The incident, including use of a Taser, is being reviewed by the police department.
