A man appearing in a Fort Worth court Tuesday ran from court after hearing the charges against him and stole an empty police cruiser, police say.

Officers pursued the accused man through downtown until he ran a red light at 7th and Calhoun and stuck another vehicle, police said.

According to Fort Worth Police Department, both the defendant and the driver of the second vehicle in the crash were taken to an area hospital for observation.

Fort Worth Police have not revealed the identity of the defendant.
