Denver police are continuing their search for an inmate who walked away from a minimum-level facility near Golden and stole a state vehicle.

Kenneth Gomez did not show up to a court date Wednesday morning. At the same time, a red vehicle belonging to Colorado State Patrol was also reported missing.

The 30-year-old was a low-custody, minimum-classified offender working as a mechanic in the Colorado State Patrol Garage at the Colorado State Patrol Academy, located on the grounds of Camp George West.

Gomez was given a five-year sentence in 2011 for burglary and disturbing the public peace.

Police say Gomez may be trying to see his girlfriend, who lives in Westminster and works in Aurora.

He is described as a Hispanic male with brown eyes and black hair. He is 5 feet 4 inches tall and weighs 150 pounds.

A Crime Stoppers notification claims “Gomez has a criminal history indicating violent tendencies. Caution is advised.”
