Jersey City police are searching for an unmarked vehicle that was stolen from a parking lot across from the North District police station, authorities said.
Police in Elizabeth spotted the vehicle at around 4 a.m. today and attempted to stop it, but the driver sped away from the scene, Jersey City spokeswoman Jennifer Morrill said.
Jersey City’s license plate reader — a stationary device that captures images of license plates — tracked the vehicle reentering the city just before 5 a.m. today, Morrill added.
The vehicle was stolen from a Central Avenue lot near Hutton Street. Elizabeth police said there were two men inside when they spotted the vehicle this morning, Morrill said.
The investigation is ongoing.
