Windsor police are looking for a suspect who attempted to steal an unmarked police vehicle, while an officer was in the driver’s seat.

Police say on Thursday around 1pm, a plain clothes police officer was parked in a parking lot in the 1500-block of Huron Church Rd. An unknown man suddenly opened the driver’s door in an “apparent theft attempt.” The officer struggled with the suspect before he fled on foot towards Tecumseh Rd. E. Police searched the area and were unable to locate the man, but were able to collect video footage of the suspect at a nearby store.

The suspect is described a white male, early to mid 20′s, medium build, 5’9″-5’10″ tall, brown hair, prescription eye glasses, and a light complexion. Police say he was wearing a black baseball cap with a teal brim, a dark green wool jacket with black or dark green leather sleeves with the words 1999 Can-Am possibly written on the front of the jacket, and blue jeans with tan or beige boots. Under his green jacket, the male was wearing a white sweater and hoodie with what appeared to be a black camouflage pattern.
